- A morris `set’ is most often formed of 6 or 8 dancers in two parallel lines of equal numbers (3 or 4 on each side)
- The top of the set is `UP’ and is where the musicians stand facing the dancers
- The bottom (other end) is `DOWN’
- Facing or turning inwards so both lines face each other is `ACROSS’ the set.

- Dancer positions are numbered 1, 2..... 8
- Positions 1 & 2 at the top of the set are the positions which dictate the lines and positioning of the set;
- all others in the set should look to them as `markers’.
- For this reason it is often felt beneficial for more experienced dancers to take these positions.
